21st Pastoral Anniversary

Today our congregation celebrated my husband's 21st year pastoring and my 7th year pastoring alongside him. Twenty-one years as a pastor is remarkable and especially so because my husband has NEVER received a salary. He has always worked fulltime along with pastoring. I also work fulltime and pastor.

We know our members care about us: they went all out to demonstrate what we mean to them. We walked into the sanctuary that had been transformed for the celebration. Love was obvious in every detail. The order of service included a poem, praise dance, Bible verses recited from memory from the youth, and three "mini sermons" from out ministry team. The presence and power of God was palpable. After worship we were given gifts, an offering (that we KNOW was a SACRIFICE), and a delicious dinner had been prepared. We were so blessed by everyone's participation and all the effort that was obvious in everything.

The most precious part of today however, was not in the preparation, or the gifts, or the dinner. The best part of today was knowing that each member is doing their best to live for God. THAT is what pastoring and ministry is all about. The spiritual growth that is evident in EACH of their lives is the BEST appreciation we could ever have.

The call from the recruiter came out of the blue. A former colleague had given him my name and he immediately reached out. Eight weeks later, I am stepping into a whole new life. Green Spring Baptist Church

We have been very, very busy getting settled in Virginia. God has favored us tremendously. We have met so many nice and helpful people, and this has allowed us to feel at home here. One thing that was at the top of our list was to connect with a ministry, so that we could continue to walk in our pastoral calling. God orchestrated what I call a "divine appointment." A local pastor, who befriended us early on, invited us to a pastors' prayer breakfast. He introduced us to the attendees while the breakfast was in progress. Immediately after the breakfast, a gentleman approached my husband, introduced himself as a deacon from Green Spring Baptist Church, and asked my husband to come and speak at the ministry. He shared they had been without a pastor for several years and they were hoping to find the right person to fill that role. Dates were arranged. Fast forward to today. Unwanted Gift

Before I get into today's post, I want to say "Thank you!" When I started this blog I had no idea there would be so many people who would take the time to read what I write. I want you to know I greatly appreciate each of you and your readership is very encouraging to me.  Unwanted Gift Have you ever received a gift and thought "What were they thinking?" or "What am I going to do with this?" I confess that I have.
